My name is Van Werenka. I have been a member of the Mayerthorpe 4-H Beef Club for 7 years. I was fortunate enough to have been elected President of the Club this year. It is definitely different holding the meetings virtually but we are making it work! 4-H has taught me some very useful skills like public speaking, volunteering, and being a role model for younger members. Over the past several years I have been able to attend 4-H camps at Battle Lake, where I have had a lot of fun and met new friends. This year I was able to take the YLEAD program and now hope to counselor camps this summer! When I'm not helping on the farm you could find me on my snowmobile or on the slopes with my snowboard or playing other sports such as hockey, and golf. My homegrown steer project is ""Big Fred."" He is a Red Angus that I picked from our family herd. If you are looking for some “Keg” quality beef, Fred will fill your freezer. We have a spot booked on Wednesday June 9th at Dan Custom Meats (Barrhead). We are willing to get the steer to an alternate facility if you wish.
